As you consider a Catholic education for your child, you have good reason to have confidence in St. Joseph Catholic School. When your child enters St. Joseph’s in August, you can rest assured that he/she will receive a superior education. The Western Accreditation of Schools & Colleges (WASC) and the Western Catholic Education Association has consistently awarded St. Joseph Catholic School the highest rating possible. Our faculty and staff are committed to our culture of academic excellence. We are proud to include ancillary academic programs such as: computer/technology education with Google Chromebook Labs; an art program encompassing art history, art forms, and hands-on art experiences; and a state of the art science lab that provides the student with a comprehensive science experience – all structured to maximize direct student involvement.

How Does Transitional Kindergarten Work?

Transitional Kindergarten (TK) gives children the opportunity to begin to spread their wings in a safe, faith-filled, developmentally age-appropriate environment. St. Joseph Catholic School teaches TKers a sense of responsibility, community, and Catholic identity all within a nurturing and loving atmosphere. The SJCS TK program focuses on the spiritual, physical, social, emotional, and cognitive development of your child. In addition to daily class instruction, TK students participate in weekly enrichment activities that include Spanish, Physical Education, Technology Lab, Music, and school library. Our TK program provides students with a wealth of opportunities to achieve the knowledge and skills necessary to prepare them for Kindergarten. And, since Transitional Kindergarten is a hybrid program, students will spend part of the day in with the Kindergartners – preparing them in every way for a smooth transition to Kindergarten.

Our Curriculum

The goal of Transitional Kindergarten is to provide a fun, positive, small-group setting that encourages a love of learning, develops a sense of community, and prepares your child for Kindergarten in a faith-filled environment. This is achieved through a combination of developmental, multi-sensory, academic, and social experiences. Faith in service is central to all learning that takes place at St. Joseph Catholic School. Our TK class is fully involved in the school faith community. TK students attend Mass and prayer services and participate in school-wide community service projects.

Enrichment Activities

The Transitional Kindergarten program at St. Joseph Catholic School allows each child the opportunity to participate on a weekly basis in enrichment activities including Spanish, Physical Education, Technology Lab, and visiting the school library. Our program will provide many opportunities for each child to achieve the knowledge and skills necessary to prepare them for Kindergarten.

Class Session

The Transitional Kindergarten class meets Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and follows the St. Joseph Catholic School calendar. For busy families who need before and after school care, the Extension program is open from 7:00 – 8:00 a.m. and from 3:00 p.m. – 5:30 p.m. while school is in session. They will wear uniforms and hot lunch is available.

Age Requirements

Applicants for Transitional Kindergarten must be 4 years old by September 1st. Since TK is designed to be a bonus year before Kindergarten, our TK students have a mix of summer, fall, and winter birthdays. Some incoming TK students have already had their 5th birthday and others will be 5 during the course of the school year.

Tuition Costs

Tuition is $551.72 for 11 months paid July through May. It follows the same tuition schedule as SJCS as the TK program is incorporated with K-8.
